How to prepare your Instagram for a Summer break

It’s officially summer! Whether you’re taking a trip or just need time to unplug from social media (good for you), you can keep your Instagram account active and engaged while you enjoy some well-deserved time off.

Here are my top tips:

1. Plan and batch any content in advance

Your account doesn’t have to be as active as usual – really, it will be ok! But any content should be created and scheduled before you depart.

Scheduling options include:

  • Insagram’s in-app scheduling (right before publishing a post, click “Advanced Settings” and schedule from there)

  • A trusted platform like Later, Planoly, or Hootsuite

  • Facebook’s Meta Business Suite (if you have a Facebook page for your business)

2. Set up your account’s FAQs

This feature can guide conversations without you actually being online, saving you time and resources. Learn more in my reel

Set up in Menu > Settings & Privacy > Creator Tools and Controls > Frequently Asked Questions

3. Announce and pin your change in availability

Let your followers know you won’t be available for a given amount of time.

On your feed, pin a post with the update, so it’s the first thing audiences see when visiting your page. On your story, create a temporary highlight called “OUT OF OFFICE” with the details.

4. Mute or disable notifications

You’re taking a break, so actually take the break! Turn off notifications to remove temptation. Do so in Menu > Settings & Privacy > Time Spent > Notification Settings.
