Should you give Instagram’s new Threads app a chance?

Instagram recently launched a new app called Threads – and before you think “another app??”, here’s what makes this one different (and why 100 million people signed up in the first five days).

Threads is Instagram’s version of Twitter. It’s a text-based, standalone app that is linked to your Instagram account.

This means you already have your account, username, and even followers waiting for you, you just have to go “activate” them.

Threads does not have hashtags, trending topics, DMs, or a multitude of algorithms to overwhelm you.

You can include photos and videos, but the focus is on text and conversations.

Users are raving about how fun, easy, straightforward, and care-free the app is. And I have to agree! It is refreshing to escape the noise, clutter, and appearances of Instagram.

However, it can still feel overwhelming to add another app to your business’ to-do list.

Hopping on a new app is always beneficial in its early stages, but not something I recommend forcing yourself to do if you don’t have the capacity for it.

So if you decide to give it a try, here are some things to keep in mind as you explore Threads:

  • There are no “tricks” or “hacks” for this app (yet), so don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. Let yourself explore and experiment with your posts.

  • Users have spoken and they’re tired of “sales-y” content. Let your THOUGHTS lead your content, whether it’s humor, motivation, “real talk”, etc.

  • How can you make your Threads content complement your Instagram content? Threads users can access your Instagram page from your Threads page, and vice versa. Copying and pasting your content from other apps won’t be enough to grow.

    • TIP: What values or standards do you and your business live by? Can you focus on those aspects on Threads, and let viewers head to your Instagram to learn more about your actual products or services?

Your social media presence doesn’t have to be a drag. As new apps (and features) come and go, always have strong boundaries in place so you don’t waste time or get distracted from your overall business goals.
